Serves as a Unix System Administrator (SA) subject matter expert for all UNIX support requirements.
Day-to-day responsibilities include administration of UNIX equipment and monitoring and resolving problems in a world-wide network of SUN servers and workstations. The SA shall provide on-site customer support, answering and responding to all reported systems concerns and/or system outages. Installs hardware/software, conducts system upgrades, evaluates and installs patches and resolves software and security related problems. Performs system backups and recovery. Maintains user accounts, data files and monitors system configuration to ensure data integrity. Conducts informal training, maintains documentation, and provides front line support for IT related problems. Provides on-site scheduled, on call, extended hour and weekend support as required. The ability to travel worldwide and perform SA support functions is required.
Provides input to the design of the organization's systems and mission architecture. Analyzes and resolves complex problems associated with server hardware, applications and software integration. Participates in technical interchange meetings (TIMs) with government personnel and delivers conference reports, trip reports, and routine weekly status reports as required.
REQUIRED
- 6 years UNIX SA experience.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to work within a team.
- Good understanding of LAN/WAN operations.
- Good understanding of TCP/IP concepts.
- Experience with SUN SPARC platforms.
- Experience administrating Solaris 8/9 OE.
- Good verbal and written communications.
DESIRED
- Experience administering/deploying (DNS/NTP/NIS/LDAP/SendMail/AD) network services.
- Experience administering NAS; specifically, Network Appliance (NetApp) filers.
- Knowledge of CISCO routers, switches, and firewalls.
- Familiarity with Oracle Database and Application Servers.
- Experience with Veritas NetBackup.
- Experience with Solaris 10.
- Experience with Solaris Containers (Zones).
- Experience with Linux/RHEL.
- Solaris and/or Network+ Certification.
- Experience with Virtualization
